What does a drone LiDAR survey cost?
Most undeveloped land projects start at $3,995 for sites up to 50 acres and a half-day of field operations. This includes aerial LiDAR acquisition, point cloud processing, ground classification, terrain breaklines, Topo/TIN generation, and a high-resolution RGB orthophoto.
Pricing assumes the surveyor sets and observes the project ground control. Projects are performed under a mutually executed Master Services Agreement (MSA).
Larger sites and corridor projects, difficult terrain access or operating conditions, additional built feature / water feature breakline extraction, tree canopy extraction, CAD drafting, custom deliverables and mobilization are quoted based on project requirements.
What areas do you serve?
We provide rapid mobilization throughout Colorado's Front Range, Western Slope, and Continental Divide regions. We also support projects throughout the Mountain West, including Utah, New Mexico, and Wyoming.
How do you ensure accuracy in mountain terrain?
We perform and report the residuals of a 7-parameter Helmert site calibration (3 axis translation and rotation, plus scale) to your ground-scaled coordinates and perform a vertical bias adjustment against your control. This process also identifies any inconsistent control issues early in the project delivery.
What's included in a basic LiDAR package?
Acquisition, GNSS/IMU processing, classification to ground, DTM, terrain breaklines, TIN surface, contours, and a comprehensive residual and outlier report for QA/QC.
Detailed feature breaklines, planimetric drafting, tree canopy extraction, and other custom deliverables are available as optional add-ons.
What are your standard file formats?
Standard deliverables include: COPC/LAZ point cloud; LandXML surface with and without Civil 3D breakline definitions; layered DXF file with contours, survey points, annotations, and extracted features; DTM GeoTIFF; and an orthophoto as compressed JPEG2000 and Cloud Optimized GeoTIFF.
What questions should I ask before hiring a drone LiDAR survey company?
Before selecting a LiDAR mapping provider, consider asking:
- How is the LiDAR data calibrated to survey control and project ground coordinates?
- Do you provide initial calibration residuals and thorough documentation of point cloud post-processing treatments?
- How are control-point, check-point, and independent verification measurements collected, analyzed, and reported?
- Do you perform independent accuracy checks separate from OEM processing software, and how do you provide the results?
- Are contours generated directly from a raster DEM, or from a breakline-enforced TIN surface designed for engineering and survey workflows?
- How is the final TIN surface evaluated, and how do you demonstrate that the surface supports the project tolerance requirements?
- What deliverables are included, and can they be used directly in Civil 3D, Carlson, MicroStation, ArcGIS, QGIS, and other CAD/GIS workflows?
- Will I receive a report documenting the end-to-end quality control process?
